1. The Beach
Sydney is home to some of the nicest beaches in Australia, right at our fingertips. Go for a swim, a surf, a walk, a bite to eat – the possibilities are endless. See here for some of our beach recommendations if you’re sick of Bondi.
2. Markets
Sydney is home to lots of weekend markets. If you’re on a budget you can look and not touch, still enjoying the good weekend vibes. We recommend Glebe Markets, Bondi Markets, or Carriageworks farmers markets for the foodies!
3. Walks and Gardens
There are endless stunning walks around Sydney and its surroundings. A classic is the harbour bridge walk, if you can’t afford the climb the pedestrian path is free and offers just as amazing views of the city. Alternatively, walks along the water such as the Bondi to Bronte, the Glebe Foreshore walk or Manly to the Spit Bridge are great to take in Sydney’s gorgeous views and weather.
4. Window Shop
Sydney has many vibrant shopping streets that are just as enjoyable to shop and browse then actually make a dent in the bank account. Strand arcade and the Queen Victoria Building located in the CBD are a historical experience in itself with the buildings dating back to 1891. Alternatively, King Street in Newtown is the Inner West’s hip hub, with all things sustainable, small boutiques and plenty of vintage shops to browse.
5. Museums & Galleries
You can still experience Sydney’s culture without paying the big bucks. The Museum of Contemporary Art in Circular Quay and the Art Gallery of NSW in the Domain are must visits for art lovers. For the museum lovers, the Australian National Maritime Museum has a large permanent free collection, or check out one of Sydney’s newer museums, the Chau Chak Wing Museum.
